Caregiver Commitment and Child Behavior in Foster Care

Findings presented in this poster suggest that caregiver commitment is associated with child behavior early during placement, but that over time caregiver commitment becomes less contingent upon child behavior. Policy implications are considered.

Differences Between Kinship Foster, Non-Relative Foster and High-Risk Birth Parents

Differences between kinship and non-relative caregivers are examined in the context of a control group of neglecting birth parents. Our results suggest than kinship caregivers are more similar to non-relative foster parents than to at-risk birth parents.

Attachment to Teacher and Cortisol Production among Young Children in Child Care

The relation between young children's attachment to their day-care teachers and cortisol levels throughout the day was examined. Results indicate that children with secure attachments to their their teachers show greater cortisol increases across the school day relative to children with less secure attachment to their teachers.

Infant Attachment Classification and Naturalistic Reunions at Day Care

The concordance between children's strange situation classifications and behaviors exhibited during a reunion after a day in day care was explored. Results revealed that children with secure attachment classification showed higher levels of secure behaviors, delight and physical contact when interacting with their mothers at the reunion. Mothers of children with secure attachment classifications showed higher levels of physical contact, delight and responsiveness when picking up their child from day care.

Full-Day Patterns of Cortisol Production among Toddlers in Child Care

The primary aim of the study was to examine full-day patterns of cortisol production among toddlers on days when they were at home and on days when they attended child care. Children showed different patterns of cortisol production on child care days compared with home days, with signficantly higher afternoon values at child care compared with home.
